In the Holy month of Ramadan – as in all days and nights, you can illuminate your hearts more with divine Thikr [remembrance of God], thereby preparing yourselves to enter the sacred realm of Qadr nights. "The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter” [Al-Qadr – 3,4]. It is a night where angels join the Earth with the Heavens, illuminating the hearts and the surrounding with the light of the Almighty’s grace and mercy. It is a night of peace and spiritual well-being – "Peace it is until the emergence of dawn” [Al-Qadr – 5]. It is a night of limpidity of the hearts and souls. It is the night to recover from the moral, spiritual, materialistic, general and social maladies, which nowadays, unfortunately, have manifested in many of the world’s nations, including the Muslim nations! The cure from all of these is possible and facilitated during the nights of Qadr, as long as you reach Qadr nights prepared. (26/11/1997)
The value of the night of Qadr should be appreciated. Its hours should be seized. Practice [good deeds] so that, in God’s will, the divine destiny for our dear country and for our united people would be that one that our faithful and dear people deserve. (14/11/2003)
We should be hopeful, pray and try to benefit from these nights [Nights of Qadr] in order to reach our spiritual ascension, since prayer is a means for the believer to transcend. Supplication and the Nights of Qadr are a transcendence for the believer as well. We have to act in order to achieve transcendence and to drift away – as much as we can – far from material rascalities and trifles which many people throughout the world are suffering from. Our attachments, bad behaviors – inhuman and anti-human ones, the spirit of transgression and greed, corruption, decadence and oppression are the garbage of human soul. These nights are able to aid us to drift far from these [immoralities]. (05/11/2004)
"The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” [Al-Qadr – 3]. A night that has been known as the Night of Qadr – there is some doubt about which night in the month of Ramadan is the Night of Qadr – is better and loftier than a thousand months. The believers should make the most of the auspicious hours of the Nights of Qadr. The best practiceduring this night is supplication. Ihya’a [reviving the night] is to pray, to supplicate and to engage in dhikr [remembrance of God]. Prayer – which is recommended during the Nights of Qadr – is in fact a manifestation of supplication and dhikr as well. It has been narrated that "Supplication is the brain of worshipping” [Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 90, page 300]. The brain of worshipping – or as commonly known as’the soul of worshipping’ – is supplication. What does supplication mean? It means speaking to Allah the Exalted. In fact, it means feeling God that much close to ourselves and opening up our hearts to Him. Supplicationis either a way to request, to express praise and accolade, or to express one’s kindness and respect. All of these are supplications. It is one of the most important practices performed by a believer or an individual who wishes to achieve salvation and bliss. Supplication has such a role in purifying the souls. (29/10/2005)
All of the supplications that we have got from the Infallible Imams (Peace be upon them) are full of meaning. They are filled with concepts of burning and idyllic love and mysticism at its high excellence. However, one of the best supplications (maybe the best) are those that reached us from the Commander of Faithfull (P.b.u.h.). these supplications include the Supplication of Kumail, Supplication of Sabah [the morning] and the Supplication of Sha’baneyya [the month of Sha’aban]. Once I asked Imam Khomeini (r.a.) which supplications he liked most. He said: "Sha’baneyya and Komeil”. These two supplications reached us from Imam Ali (P.b.u.h.). These are filled with the burning devotion of Imam Ali. In fact, these would be the burning devotion of anyone who recites these supplications with attentiveness.
I hereby ask our dear youth to pay close attention to the meaning of these supplications. These supplications are full of eloquent and magnificent words, words of high excellence. (19/09/2008)
I hereby ask our dear youth to pay close attention to the meaning of these supplications. These supplications are full of eloquent and magnificent words, words of high excellence. In these nights, speak to God the Exalted. Ask Him [for what you need]. If the meaning of these supplications was truly known, one would find that the best words and requests lie within these supplications and nights of the Holy month of Ramadan, in the nights of Ihya’ [reviving the nights], in the supplication of Abi Hamza, in the supplications of the Nights of Qadr. If the meaning of these supplications are not known, speak to God in your own language. Nothing can set us apart from God Almighty. He is close. He hears our words. We have to talk to God. We have to ask him to grant us what we need. This devotion and closeness with God Almighty, Thikr, asking for forgiveness, and supplication have enormous miraculous impact on the heart. They are able to revitalize the dead hearts. (19/09/2008)
The Night of Qadr is an opportunity for repenting and asking for forgiveness. Ask God the Almighty for forgiveness. When God the Exalted had granted us the opportunity to return back to Him and ask Him for forgiveness, we have to seize it; otherwise, a day will come where God the Exalted would say to the disbelievers: "Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse” [Al-Musralat – 36]. In the resurrection, God forbid, we will not be allowed to apologize. The disbelievers will not be granted the permission to ask for forgiveness; that is not the time for it. Now is the time for it. Now is the time to ask for forgiveness. Now is the time when apologizing would grant you a higher level, wash you from your sins, and purify and illuminate your soul. Ask God for forgiveness. Now is when the opportunity exists, when God the Exalted is surrounding your souls with divine kindness and love. "So remember Me; I will remember you” [Al-Baqara – 152]. (16/01/1998)
The Night of Qadr is the night for supplication, entreaty and being mindful about God Almighty. The month of Ramadan, especially the Nights of Qadr, is the ultimate time for the hearts to be busy with mindfulness, Thikr, humility and entreaty. The Nights of Qadr also grant us the opportunity to familiarize our hearts with the Commander of the Faithful and learn lessons from him. He was the embodiment of all good features that are attributed to the month of Ramadan and all the duties that God’s servants are supposed to fulfill in this month. (19/09/2008)
Tonight is the Night of Qadr, appreciate it. Supplication, entreaty, repenting, and being mindful about God the Exalted are part of our duties. Express the general problems of Muslims, the country’s problems, our personal problems, our brothers’ problems or our friends’ problems to Him. Ask Him to help you to be mindful and to repent.
know the value of this night. It is a very important and dear night. Be mindful about Imam Mahdi (P.b.u.h.). Go to the house of God – the mosque – and request your needs from God the Almighty with the blessing of Imam Mahdi (P.b.u.h.). (27/03/1992)
Since the beginning of the twenty-third night, upon sunset, the divine peace – "Peace it is until the emergence of dawn” [Al-Qadr – 5] – initiates and ends with the Athan of the morning prayer. During these few hours, the divine peace, security and mercy are sent upon all of God’s creations. That night, is a marvelous one, better than a thousand months, an incomparable one; "The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” [Al-Qadr – 3]. How much could a thousand months of a human’s lifetime could attain blessings and mercy?! This one night, is better than a thousand months. This has profound importance. Appreciate the Night of Qadr. Spend this night with supplication, mindfulness, thoughtfulness, reflection upon the verses of creation and destiny of a human, and with those acts ordered by God. Once you have let go of all the unreliable acts that connect you to the materialistic world, it would be your key to that world. (31/01/1997)
Really appreciate the Nights of Qadr. The Holy Quran says: "The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” [Al-Qadr – 3]. This is very valuable. It is the night where the angels descend [to the Earth]. It is the night where the Holy Spirit descends [to the Earth]. It is the night pronounced with peace by God the Exalted. Peace means divine greeting, health, conveyance, tranquility among mankind. It means sincerity among people, hearts and souls. This is the spiritual meaning of this night! Appreciate these nights. Pray for the good of your country and the Muslim nation. (16/01/1998)
Consider the needs of yourself, your fellow believers, your country. Pray for those who are sick, for those who are caretakers, for the veterans, for those who are sorrowful, for those who hold sadness in their hearts, for those whose souls are filled with worries, for those who are in much of humane needs, for those who live in your proximity, for those in your country, for those in the Muslim nation, for those on Earth… Ask God the Exalted to grant all these needs, one by one, in these Nights of Qadr.
