The naval fleet, comprised of Alborz destroyer and Bushehr logistic warship, will start its voyage on Sunday after a ceremony in Bandar Abbas to be attended by Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari and some other Navy officials.

The flotilla will be dispatched to Oman and later to international waters north of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden.

The Navy’s 46th flotilla that had been sent on a mission to ensure the security of naval routes in the Gulf of Aden will also arrive in the country later on Sunday.

In recent years, Iran’s naval forces have increased their presence in high seas to secure naval routes and protect merchant vessels and oil tankers against pirates.

In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.
